Upper Limb Module (ULM)

  • Designed to assess upper limb function in nonambulatory patients, consisting of upper limb performance items reflective of activities of daily living. Higher scores indicate greater functional abilities;1,2
  • Includes 9 activity items that can be performed using very little equipment (pencil, coin, plastic cup, button, lamp, can, weights);1
  • Each item is scored on a 3-point scale1:
    2: Normal—achieves goal without any assistance;
    1: Modified method but achieves goal independent of physical assistance from another person;
    0: Unable to achieve independently.

A total score (0-18) can be achieved by summing the scores for all the individual items.1
